Description

Expanding the university's academic footprint at 75 University Ave W, the Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty of Music addition stands as a modern educational landmark in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The 3-story expansion features an expressive layout with staggered joint arrangements and seamless transitions from vertical walls to overhead soffits. Beyond aesthetics, the architectural design prioritizes acoustic control, energy efficiency, and indoor environmental quality to support practice and performance spaces.

Challenge

  • An expressive layout with staggered joint arrangements and seamless transitions from vertical walls to overhead soffits
  • Prioritize acoustic control and indoor environmental quality for practice and performance spaces
  • Meet energy efficiency targets without heavy dimensional stone

Solution

  • CladiShield, Cladify’s rainscreen wall system, with thermally broken brackets and accommodation for thicker insulation layers
  • Value engineered from dimensional stone: the lightweight assembly allowed wider stud spacing and light gauge framing, reducing structural material costs
  • Large, preassembled natural stone panel sizes
  • A cladding panel assembly with improved reflective acoustical properties, contributing to a quieter interior for music students

Products that Perform

Cladify designs facade cladding systems as coordinated assemblies, developed to integrate cleanly with the building envelope and perform at scale. Our approach supports rainscreen and prefabricated wall assemblies, allowing project teams to choose the delivery method that best aligns with schedule, site constraints, and architectural intent.
